H-1B Visa Astrology — What Your Chart Says About Your Foreign Work Window

The short answer people are looking for is Rahu — and it is broadly right, but incomplete in a way that matters.

Rahu is the karaka (significator) of foreign lands, foreigners, and everything outside the boundary you were born into. A prominent Rahu, especially one touching the 12th, 9th, 10th or 4th, is present in the large majority of charts belonging to people who genuinely relocate.

But Rahu alone moves nobody. Three other factors decide whether a Rahu signature becomes a life abroad or just a restless imagination:

Saturn decides whether it lasts. Saturn governs endurance, long timelines and the grind of establishing yourself somewhere new. Rahu gets you on the plane; Saturn determines whether you are still there in a decade.

The 12th lord's own strength and dignity. A 12th lord in its own or exalted sign gives a very different quality of foreign life than a debilitated one in a difficult house — the difference between building a life abroad and being stranded by circumstance.

The dasha you are running. This is the part almost every free "videsh yog calculator" omits. A chart can carry a textbook foreign-settlement combination that never activates because the person never lives through the dasha that switches it on. Timing is not a detail here; it is the whole question.

Nakshatras that carry movement, wind, and the crossing of boundaries are traditionally read as favourable for travel and life abroad. Swati (ruled by Rahu, symbolised by wind and independent motion) is the most commonly cited. Shatabhisha (also Rahu-ruled, associated with distance and isolation) and Ardra (Rahu again, associated with upheaval and change of state) recur in the charts of people who relocate. Punarvasu, with its theme of return and renewal, is often read as travel that brings you home again — which is a meaningfully different life.

Two honest cautions, because this is where a great deal of internet astrology goes wrong.

First, the nakshatra of your Moon is one factor among many. A "travel nakshatra" in a chart with no 12th-house activity and no supporting dasha will not produce a life abroad, and a chart without one can still produce a very ordinary emigration.

Second, the useful reading is not "is my nakshatra good for travel" but "what is the nakshatra of the lords of my 12th and 9th houses, and when do those lords run their periods". That is a chart-specific question, which is precisely what a generic list cannot answer.

Here is the line we will not cross. The H-1B cap is a lottery. Whether your registration is selected is a random draw against a fixed quota, and no chart, transit or remedy changes the odds of a random draw. Anyone who tells you their reading will get you selected is lying to you, and it is worth walking away from them.

What is genuinely readable is your own timing — the windows in your life when foreign work and relocation are supported, and the windows when they are not:

Mahadasha and antardasha of the 12th, 9th and 10th lords. These are the periods when the houses governing foreign life are actively running. Applications made, employers found and moves attempted inside these windows tend to go with the grain of the chart rather than against it.

Rahu periods. Rahu mahadasha and Rahu antardasha are disproportionately represented in the timelines of people who actually emigrate. Rahu periods are also volatile, so the same window that opens the door abroad often destabilises other things at once.

Jupiter's transit over the 9th and 12th. A classical window for matters requiring official sanction — and a reasonable time to have your paperwork ready rather than half-finished.

Saturn's position relative to your Moon. If you are running Sade Sati, relocation is not forbidden, but it typically arrives with more friction, delay and administrative weight than the same move in a clear period. Knowing that in advance changes how much runway you give yourself.

None of this predicts a decision made by a government. It tells you which years the chart favours the attempt, which is the question you can actually act on.

We would rather lose the sale than overstate this.

It does not predict a visa outcome. Immigration decisions are made by governments applying policy, quotas and lotteries. A birth chart has no access to any of that.

It does not replace an immigration lawyer. Nothing here is legal advice, and no remedy substitutes for correct filing.

It does not guarantee timing. A favourable dasha window is a description of the chart's own rhythm, not a promise about the calendar of an external institution.

What it does do is tell you whether the foreign-work signature is genuinely present in your chart, how strong it is, which houses and dashas carry it, and which years favour the attempt — computed from your real birthplace, with the timezone derived from your coordinates rather than assumed to be IST. That last detail matters more than it sounds: if you were born outside India, an ascendant computed on the wrong timezone shifts your house cusps by whole signs, and the houses that govern foreign life are exactly the ones that move.
