Name numerology calculator
Type a name and see its number worked out letter by letter by the Chaldean method — the values, the total, each reduction and the planet that rules the result. Compare spellings side by side, and add a date of birth to see whether the name's planet gets on with your birth number's.

A worked example
Asha Verma: A 1 + S 3 + H 5 + A 1 + V 6 + E 5 + R 2 + M 4 + A 1 = 28. Reduced: 28 → 10 → 1. The name number is 1, ruled by Sun. Spaces and any character that is not a letter are ignored.
Which planet rules each name number
Each number links to its full reading. The same number carries the same planet whether it comes from a name or a birth date.
Name number, birth number, and why both matter
Your birth number (Mulank) is fixed by the day you were born; your name number is the one you can change. That is why spelling corrections are such a large part of numerology practice — the name is the only lever. The usual check is the one this calculator makes: is the name's planet a friend of the birth number's planet? The friendships come from the same planetary-relationship table this site's kundli matching uses for Graha Maitri, and a pair counts as friendly or opposed only when the relationship runs both ways.

Name numerology: common questions
How is a name number calculated?
Each letter gets a value from the Chaldean table (A = 1, B = 2 and so on, as listed on this page), the values are added, and the total is reduced by adding its digits until one digit is left. Asha Verma adds up to 28, which reduces 28 → 10 → 1, so the name number is 1, ruled by Sun.
Why does no letter have the value 9?
In the Chaldean system the letter values run from 1 to 8 only; 9 is not given to any letter. A name can still come out as 9 after its total is reduced.
Which name should I enter — my full name or the one I use?
Enter the name you are actually called by and sign with. If you use more than one (a full legal name and a short one), put both in the comparison boxes and look at both numbers.
What happens with master numbers 11, 22 and 33?
They are shown as they are and not reduced further. For the ruling planet they are read through their digit sum: 11 through 2 (Moon), 22 through 4 (Rahu), 33 through 6 (Venus).
Should I change the spelling of my name?
The calculator shows what each spelling adds up to and, if you give a date of birth, whether its planet is friendly, neutral or opposed to your birth number's planet. That is a fact about the spellings. Whether a change is worth making depends on where that planet sits in your own birth chart, which a number alone cannot see.
