D60 Chart Calculator (Shashtiamsa) — Your Past-Life Chart

The D-60 divides every sign into sixty slivers of half a degree. The tradition reads it for the karma a soul carries into this life. It is also the most time-sensitive chart there is, so this calculator draws it only from an exact birth time.

How the D-60 Is Calculated

Each 30° sign is divided into sixty parts of half a degree. The part a planet falls in is counted onward from the sign itself: the D-60 sign is the planet's sign plus the number of whole half-degrees it has travelled into that sign, wrapped round the twelve signs.

So a planet at 19°59′ Taurus has travelled 39 whole half-degrees into Taurus, which counts 39 signs on from Taurus and lands on Leo. The same arithmetic gives the D-60 ascendant from the rising degree.

The calculator above applies exactly that rule to the Lahiri sidereal positions of your chart.

Why the D-60 Needs Your Birth Time to the Minute

Half a degree is a very small slice of the sky. The ascendant moves through all twelve signs in a day, which is about half a degree every two minutes on average, so the D-60 ascendant can change sign between two people born a few minutes apart. The Moon covers half a degree in roughly an hour. The slow planets hold their D-60 sign for days or weeks.

That is why this page will not draw a D-60 without a birth time: a chart cast for noon would not be yours. If your time came from memory rather than a birth certificate, treat the D-60 ascendant with caution and lean on the planets' D-60 signs instead.

Rahu and Ketu are calculated on the true node here. Software that uses the mean node can place them a sign or two away in the D-60; the other planets are unaffected.

What the Tradition Reads in the D-60

Classical Jyotish treats the shashtiamsa as the chart of what a person arrives already carrying: the strengths that come easily and the patterns that keep returning. It is read alongside the birth chart, never instead of it. The birth chart describes what this life does; the D-60 is read as the deeper pattern underneath.

Two honest limits. First, it is a classical reading, not evidence of any past life, and nothing in a chart can verify one. Second, its precision cuts both ways: a planet sitting near the edge of a half-degree part changes D-60 sign with a small correction to the birth time.
