What is a transit in Vedic astrology?

A transit, or gochar, is where a planet is in the sky now, as opposed to where it was at your birth. Its effect depends on which house of your chart it currently occupies.

Should transits be read from the Moon or the ascendant?

Vedic practice commonly reads them from the natal Moon, while the ascendant gives the house framework. Both are shown here because a transit can be difficult from one and supportive from the other.

Which transits matter most?

The slow-moving bodies — Saturn, Jupiter, Rahu and Ketu — because they stay in a sign long enough to shape a period. Fast planets shift within days.
