Frequently asked questions
What is a teva in Lal Kitab?
The teva is the Lal Kitab birth chart. It uses twelve fixed khanas which are the twelve signs: khana 1 is Aries for every native, khana 2 Taurus, through khana 12 Pisces. Each planet is drawn in the khana matching its own sign, so the box and the sign are the same object.
How is a Lal Kitab chart different from a normal kundli?
A standard Vedic chart counts houses from your rising sign, so the same planet falls in different houses for two people born the same day. Lal Kitab does not: the khanas are permanently the signs. Your ascendant appears once, as a marker on the khana it falls in.
What is pakka ghar?
Each planet has a permanent house, its pakka ghar, the same for every native. The commonly published table is Sun 1, Jupiter 2, Mars 3, Moon 4, Ketu 6, Mercury 7, Venus 7, Saturn 10, Rahu 12. A planet sitting in its own pakka ghar behaves differently from one that is not. Some family lineages carry a variant, most often the Sun at the 11th.
Do I need my birth time for a Lal Kitab teva?
The birth time places the lagna marker, which is the one thing the hour does in this chart. Because planets are placed by sign, most positions will be the same for anyone born within the same fortnight — the Moon and the marked khana are what make the chart yours.
