ChatGPT Astrology Prompts — And the Part the Prompt Cannot Do

You need real numbers before any prompt below will do anything useful. The free chart linked at the foot of this page takes your birth date, exact time and birthplace, and returns sidereal positions computed with Swiss Ephemeris and the Lahiri ayanamsa: every graha by sign, degree and house, your ascendant, your Moon's nakshatra, and your current Vimshottari dasha.

Two details that decide whether the whole exercise is worth anything:

Birth time matters more than people expect. The ascendant advances a full degree about every four minutes. A guess of "around 6 in the morning" can move house boundaries and take every planet's house placement with it. Use the birth certificate if you have it.

Birthplace must be the real one, on the right clock. If you were born in India, the offset was not always +5:30 — Calcutta and Bombay kept their own local times before 1955, and there was a wartime shift in 1941–45. If you were born outside India but your details once went into an Indian tool, they may have been silently read as IST. Our chart derives the UTC offset from the coordinates and the timezone database as it stood on your birth date, which is the specific thing most software skips.

Full chart reading (Vedic)

You are reading a sidereal (Vedic) birth chart. Do not calculate or infer any positions — use only the placements I give you, and if something is missing, say so rather than filling it in. Marriage and relationships

Using only these computed placements — {placements} — read the marriage indications in this chart. Cover the 7th house and its lord, Venus and Jupiter by sign and house, and anything afflicting the 7th. If I have given you D-9 (navamsa) positions, weight those heavily for marriage, and say explicitly where the D-9 disagrees with the D-1. Then tell me which dasha periods in my sequence are most likely to carry a marriage, and why those and not the others.

Career

Using only these computed placements — {placements} — read this chart for profession. Cover the 10th house and its lord, the 6th for employment and the 11th for gains, and the strongest planet capable of directing a career. If I have given you D-10 (dasamsa) positions, read the profession from those rather than from the D-1 alone. Name the two or three fields the chart actually supports and the reasoning for each, then say which upcoming dasha period is the strongest window for a change.

The year ahead

Using only these computed placements and my current dasha sequence — {placements} — tell me what the next twelve months emphasise. Work from the running mahadasha and antardasha and what those lords govern in my chart. Give me dated windows rather than general themes, and tell me which of them are worth acting in and which are better spent waiting.

One that is worth running on any AI reading you get

Here is an astrology reading I was given: {reading}. Which claims in it depend on a computed position, and which are general enough to be true of anyone? List them in two columns. Do not defend the reading.

The workflow above genuinely works, and for a curious afternoon it is the right amount of effort. Three things it will not do, whatever the prompt says:

It will not stay consistent. Run the same placements twice and you will get two readings that differ in emphasis and sometimes contradict each other. There is nothing anchoring the second run to the first.

It will not read the divisional charts unless you compute them too. D-9 for marriage and D-10 for profession are separate calculations, not derivable from the main chart by inspection — and a model asked for them without the numbers will produce them anyway.

It will not commit to dates. Vimshottari dasha timing comes off your Moon's exact longitude, and without a real sequence in front of it a model gives you periods that sound plausible and are not yours.
